On the right is “Brokenness & Gratitude” 12” x 48” representing “family present” (1900s-present)— Neurographic Art, a therapeutic art process that helps a person integrate their thoughts with their emotions. Second of three panels of “Rooted Journey” Triptych: Inks, acrylic and chalk paint on canvas 96”’ x 48” —Centre panel—“Homage to Heritage” 60” x 48” —To celebrate the hundreds of individuals in my own family tree, I starting out representing one heart-shaped Linden leaf per person (Lindens grow in every region my family has settled) but it quickly shifted to responding to family pain and trauma too for visual balance and integrity so created flanking 12” x 48” responses (panels 1 and 3).

Panel 1 of 3: 12” x 48” “Trauma & Healing”representing “family past” (1600s-1800s). This flanking painting is Neurographic Art which is a therapeutic art process that helps a person integrate their thoughts with their emotions. “Cradle of Ancestry” A Mixed Media Installation I created “alongside” the handcrafted cradle made by my paternal Great-Grandfather . My family tree is printed on parchment paper, rolled in scroll-like fashion, and arranged in this treasured family piece made in Canada around 1897 by Herman Neufeld about 22 years old. Tragically, he died within 5 years but not before placing 5 precious babies in this cradle. Several generations have been in it now. And in tracking back through the generations of family, from cradle to grace to grave, I was compelled to literally tuck my whole family tree inside it. #artinstallation #antique #mennonite #mennonitehistory #cradle #antiquecadle #family #familytree #art #canadian #canadianartist

As a #toddler my younger daughter noticed that my feet on the coffee table could use some comfort. Without a word she found a cushion and tucked it under my heels. To start off my show “Resident Light”, I have “Windows to Culture” covering my #mennonite #heritage from the from 1500s to present.
These found antique windows were perfect to illustrate significant snippets from many generations of family ancestry. I used mixed media to paint or build each window pain, signifying various eras in the family tree. #geneology #familytree #mennonitehistory #lightofchrist

Launching my “Resident Light” #art show at the Chair Gallery Cafe in #stcatharines #canada I was very encouraged buy the large turn out celebrating #family, #heritage #faith and #marriage! So I had my heart set on having fresh #orchids on my anniversary #cake. However, the fresh orchids were looking a little worse for wear at the store so I picked up fake flowers from #michaels (with my 30% off coupon of course) and dipped them in melted wax. What do you think? I love it I’ll post a picture when I’m all done my cake! #creative #experiment

My #residentlight #art show was warmly received as a prelaunch by my #church family today in the @thirdchairgallery in @calvaryonscott - I am looking forward to sharing my exhibit with my family and friends this Friday at the official #exhibit launch. With 60 RSVP attendees - it will be a party! The exhibit is all about the #story: Stories of family and messages of hope and healing. So starting in a few days, I will be posting both my art and the processes and thoughts attached to each piece. Thanks for your interest!

Practicing my drawing skills. Join me! There are 100 photo portraits chosen by Ahmed Aldoori - with them, we challenge ourselves by drawing or painting them all. I picked up the gauntlet to practice my drawing skills but apparently have not been up to the challenge with three false starts since 2020. But I am determined to complete it now! I was thrilled to not only see Makoto Fujimura’s work for the first time, but had an unexpected 40 minutes to sit with it while alone in the gallery and in its silence. His slow art resinated with my soul’s yearning for rest. And THEN the artists himself walked up to me and the two of us “talked shop” (faith, healing, and art) for several minutes. I thought I would post this serigraph I made in another life (so it seems). I was thrilled that this piece won an award at the time in a juried exhibit with the Manitoba Society of Artists - and that the hand-pulled print was purchased - one of my first official sales. More importantly however, is how personally attached I am to this piece. It was inspired - or “bubbled up” as C.S.
